The Jerusalem Trilogy is a three-part biography of the historical Balian d’Ibelin. Unlike the Hollywood version in the film “The Kingdom of Heaven,” the historical Balian was a baron of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, married to the Dowager Queen of Jerusalem and Byzantine Princess, Maria Comnena. He fought with distinction at the Battle of Montgisard, defended Jerusalem against Saladin in 1187, and later negotiated the end of the Third Crusade.
